“BLACKWATER” WINS HUGO

September 18, 2013

Game of Thrones beat Doctor Who to win a trophy at The Hugo Awards 2013.  The Hugo’s is an annual event celebrating the best in sci-fi and fantasy and was held this year at LoneStarCon 3 in San Antonio, Texas.  The HBO fantasy drama’s victory breaks Doctor Who‘s three-year running streak, with the BBC series grabbing the ‘Short Form’ award in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The episode that won, Blackwater, is also widely-acknowledged as the finest episode of the series to date.  George R.R. Martin accepted the award along with Rory McCann, who plays Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane in the TV series.  The awards were presented to George for screen writing, the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and Director Neil Marshall.
